The Hutchins Middle School development is the product of a long standing, collaborative relationship between the Hutchins School and HBV Architects. The project comprises a large dance studio with sprung floor, a drama space, multi purpose food space, 4 new classrooms and support spaces, all connected internally by stairs and elevator to the existing school. At the core of the facility is a large volume forum space, with tiered seating and raking ceiling, that is interconnected with breakout spaces and landscaped courtyard.
Although designed to maximise the use of daylight and passive cooling the facility also has a considered artificial lighting component developed in collaboration with JMG engineers and Southern Lighting. The end result is a vibrant learning space that offers the ultimate flexibility to the school for the needs of today and long into the future.
